State Animal: Asiatic Elephant The Asian or Asiatic elephant (Elephas maximus) is the only living species of the genus Elephas and is distributed in South-East Asia from India in the West to Borneo in the East. Three subspecies are recognised; Elephas maximus from Sri Lanka, the Elephas maximus indicus from mainland Asia, and Elephas maximus sumatranus from the island of Sumatra. Asian elephants are the largest living land animals in Asia.
State Bird: Asian Koel The Asian Koel (Eudynamys scolopaceus) is a member of the cuckoo family of birds, the Cuculiformes. It is found in the Indian Subcontinent, China, and South-East Asia. It forms a superspecies with the closely related black-billed and Pacific koels which are sometimes treated as subspecies. The Asian koel lays its eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts, who raise their young. They are unusual among the cuckoos in being largely frugivorous as adults. The name koel is echoic in origin with several language variants. The bird is a widely used symbol in Indian poetry.
State Flower: Palash Butea monosperma is a species of Butea, native to tropical and sub-tropical parts of the Indian Subcontinent and South-East Asia, ranging across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Western Indonesia. Common names include flame-of-the-forest and bastard teak.
State Tree: Sal Shorea robusta, also known as sal, sakhua or shala tree, is a species of tree belonging to the Dipterocarpaceae family. This tree is native to the Indian subcontinent, ranging South of the Himalaya, from Myanmar in the East to Nepal, India and Bangladesh. In India, it extends from Assam, Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, to Shivalik Hills in Haryana and East of the Yamuna.
